I paint to reaffirm my connection to my environment and myself. I strive to express my sense of belonging in the world by capturing that momentary glimpse of the unusual. A scene that a second look never reveals. A moment where life stops, takes my breath away, I am struck and have to paint.
The interplay of colour and form is usually why I notice something in the first place. I allow the colour to evolve on its own from my pallet. It moves me I become intoxicated as I move through the work. I strive to show my glimpses in a manner that is simple to understand and open to translation across cultures.
The sky surrounds us at all time. I find here in the North West the air embraces me like no other place. Giving all the time, sharing its life with me. I try to show my appreciation through my work by exploring its dynamic quality through patterns or brushstrokes.
My work is an expression of arriving in the forest and sitting down, all around is still. The nature of the area accepts my presence and returns to its business. Life in motion, sounds of business, all around me, bird, bugs, stones responding to the days heat. When I moved to an American inner city neighborhood the people of the area watched me come and go at first. Then after awhile I too was part of the daily life of the area. The parallel struck me deeply; we are not separate or different. Even with the cities’ concrete, wood, glass, and asphalt the pattern is the same. Life allowing life to coexist, we are part of a bigger natural world. I’m attempting to explore this profound experience in my work.
California artist paints in oils abstract landscapes, geometric shapes, organic sky movements, fog in the forrest, beach scenes.
